My 19th Century ancestors included artists, cowboys, loggers, and farmers. My 20th Century art schooling gave me 20th Century tools and 20th Century art in the days when artists could establish careers, professions and small fortunes. Those were the days of plenty in the USA, the salad days. Somehow it wasn't enough for me. Maybe it was in my genes--my ancestors always pushed Westward.
From 1985 on I was searching everywhere for my Perfect Studios--where teaching, research, production and service would be concommitant, simultaneous--a kind of university community in touch with the real world.
I saw all computer art as the descendant of my native art form (printmaking); this led to hypermedia. When the Internet "went public" as the World Wide Web, then came hyper text markup language.
