Active and paassive sides of Galleon Halfwood Press No. 15

Ritchie comments: I met Ava at the Southern Graphics Council International Conference in San Francisco in March, 20104. Not long after that, she ordered her Galleon Halfwood Press. Ava is originally from the San Francisco Bay area (including 13 years on a 36’ sailboat), Ava moved to Texas in 1989 where she began working in glass. Starting with the basics of stained glass technique and design, she found two-dimensional glass windows limiting to her flow of creativity. She went on to make three-dimensional glass kaleidoscopes and fused glass sculptures and jewelry. Ava spent two years working and learning on a glass blowing team and has studied advanced glass techniques at the Appalachian Center for Crafts in Tennessee; with “Hot Glass Horizons (HGH)” in Corning, New York and has begun to learn glass casting with Phil Teefy also through “HGH” in Portland, Oregon.  Currently Ava designs and makes fused glass masks and plates, as well as one-of-a-kind ceremonial Judaica. She also teaches private glass fusing workshops and is the glass-fusing director at Lake Bryn Mawr Camp for Girls in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania.
